VSS XC Race 4 - Jubber Land - Castlemaine - review

Well, can’t be but overwhelmed by the events of last Saturday.

The bush fires north of Melbourne.

Where many lost their lives.

Where many lost their homes.

Where many lost the lively hood.

All the places, names we have likely to have ridden or raced.

Kinglake, Mayrsville, Narbethong, St Andrews, Steels Creek, Taggerty, Wandong, to name but a few.

8 Feb 09 Round 4 VSS 2008/2009, Jubber Land, Campbells Creek, Castlemaine

Club – Central Rocky Riders – http://www.rockyriders.com/

84 riders started, the numbers being understandably down on previous races.

“Jubber Land” is a bit of a deceptive track, no kill climbs, some smooth interconnecting trails, alternate lines for a couple of the tricky sharp drops.

Need to keep the eyes pealed for some sharp, tyre-destroying rocks. Best to keep online, venturing off can be quite expensive.

Good controlled, orderly race start, always helps setup a positive event.

It was interesting to observe how much drier the bush has become since similar time last year. The dam a ‘Jubber Land’ was bone dry.

The results posted later that night, and the overall series points able to be updated and posted during the next day. Great stuff!

Can recommend the local Castlemaine Caravan Park cabins for a good overnight rest, before race day.

Was great to have the U13s doing a race before the main event. Those kids have good talent and determination. Presentations before the main event in front off all their mentors.
