VSS XC Race 4 - review

Postby ABgiant on Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:26 am

2-Mar-2008 Round 4 VSS 2007/2008, “Jubber Land” Castlemaine.

Club – Central Victorian Rocky Riders.

74 riders

Central Victorian Rocky Riders appear to have risen to the challenge and again lifted the standard of event hosting for VSS races.

Even before race day, CVRR had been busy, Google Map, Altitude Graph and directions to the course, which were well marked from Castlemaine on the day.

It did add a little pressure to have a 9.45 close on registrations, but it did enable a prompt start time. Again, the good sign posting from the Castlemaine traffic lights, made getting there much easier.

Color coded race numbers, was possibly the best enhancement to the day. As race start progressed each category was easily able to arrange them selves, not by guessing a random numbering scheme, but by simply observing the color of the race numbers. Out on the track, from a riders point of view, one could easily tell who was ahead, and with a quick glance watch our for approaching Elite riders, to allow them unimpeded passage.

It was one of the most organized of races starts seen so far, with roll call and staging of each category, enabling a safe start, especially when there was a difficult decent very early into the lap. Unfortunately the B line could give away up to 4 bike lengths, which could be difficult to get back.

The rocky aspects to the trail made the choice of tyre more important than what might first appear, and required a good level of technical skill. If still fatigued from the Otway Odyssey, the day might be a little more eventful than initially planned.

Missing this race was Mr. Pink, who had been dominating the Super Masters so far this reason. Hope to see him back next race to defend that lead.

Results posted before even having the time to finish washing the bike! Full marks there. - http://www.adrianlock.com/cvrr/

And some excellent action photos by Mr. Rowe via - http://mtb-images.ser.id.au/

Cans of coke and snags for $1, can’t argue with that!

One minor improvement could have been to have the Registration Form available to download before the day.

A great job CVRR.

Masters men stats

Postby ABgiant on Mon Mar 03, 2008 8:55 am

By my calculations of the results of the first 4 races, for Master Men;
- there have been 33 riders over the 4 races.
- Only 5 riders have raced all 4 races.
- 12 raced 3 races.
- 18 raced 2 races.

Hopefully the dedication of Mr. Moxon, who has placed 3rd in all four races, with points for 2nd on the ladder, will prove persistence can win the day (season).

definitely a well organised race. Although i thought the course was one of the worst i have ever ridden, being sick all week probably didn't help this fact and tyre choice was definitely a big factor.
