VSS XC Race 5 - review

Postby ABgiant on Sun Apr 13, 2008 7:54 am

13-Apr-2008 Round 5 VSS 2007/2008, Wombat State Forest, Woodend.

Club – Central Victorian Rocky Riders.

100 riders

Central Victorian Rocky Riders have been able to continue the standard of event hosting for VSS races.

Even before race day, CVRR had been busy, Map and Directions to the course, which were well marked from the Old Calder Hwy on the day.

Many riders making positive comments about the color-coded race numbers. As race start progressed each category was easily able to arrange them selves, not by guessing a random numbering scheme, but by simply observing the color of the race numbers. Out on the track, from a rider’s point of view, one could easily tell who was ahead.

It was one of the most organized of race starts, with roll call and staging of each category, enabling a safe start, especially when there was a difficult corner shortly after the start.

Was quite a good track, single track and fire road. The single track in the first quarter was a bit bumpy. The fire road, looked to be an advantage to the power rider, but with a very chilly wind blowing in at the back of the track, it could easily nock you around if you’re not feeling 100%. Was possibly the coolest weather so far this season. Did anyone notice the sections from Race 1?

Was great to see the women fielding riders in four categories, Elite Women, Expert Women, Sport Women and U19 Women.

Peter Pink made an appearance to consolidate his first place, and dominance of the Super Masters so far this season. Hope to see him back next race to clean up the season. Still remaining competitive with those 10 years his junior, starting with the Masters.

Results posted before even having the time to finish washing the bike! Full marks there. - http://www.adrianlock.com/cvrr/

And some excellent action photos by Mr. Rowe via - http://mtb-images.ser.id.au/ over 450 images of 100 riders, got to be impressed with that effort!

Cans of coke and snags for $1, you had to get back early to get a snag though. Possibly the cooler weather contributing to the excellent sales!

One minor improvement could have been to have the “Registration Form” available to download before the day.

A great job CVRR.
